Typography

In this seminar we developed and practiced our typography skills. Each person was given 3 different letters from the alphabet and was tasked to come up with 2 new designs for each of those letters. The point of this task was to get us to be creative when coming up with new typography and to get us to realise that different styles of letters has a huge impact on an audience when a message is being delivered.

I was given 'U' 'V' and 'W' to work with and above is what I came up with. My favourite design I came up with was the 'W' on the bottom left because it reminds me of something that hasn't been attended to for years and now it is covered in overgrown wildlife and it looks very good. The other designs on the other hand I don't think are very good and at the same time are similar to each other. If I did this exercise again I would definitely make it my main priority to make each design unique in its own way.

Here everyone put their new designed letters on one table and above is what they came up with.

I have learnt that typography can be and is important when it comes to creating any type of poster or front cover, anything that involves selling a product or passing a message on to an audience. The next time I make any kind of poster or something similar I will be sure to take extra care in the typography and use that to do up the poster as well as the other information that generally goes below it.
